Strong Atlantic Salmon Return

This year has had a great return of Atlantic Salmon and there have been numbers not seen in years.  “On the Penobscot River, biologists have counted more than 3,100 salmon at the Veazie dam fish trap so far — more than double the number that returned last year and the highest spawning levels since 1986.” Hopefully if this continues we can soon have a large enough return population that we can successfully target these awesome fish for catch and release.

Huge Blue Marlin Caught After 28 Hour Fight on 60 lb Test Line

I can’t imagine fighting one fish for 28 hours but then again I can’t really imagine hooking and landing a thousand pound Marlin on 60 lb test line.  Richard Biehl is credited with the catch but he wasn’t able to fight it the entire 28 hours.  After food and water was brought from another boat and Biehl took a break they were able to bring the fish in.  Using a girth and length time tested formula they determined the fish weighed 1,213 lbs. It measured “137 inches long, or 11.4 feet, not counting its bill or tail. It was 75 inches, or 6.25 feet around.”  For more on this story Click Here.

Major Props to the Hangar 24 Craft Brewery

Apparently if you ever plan to have crash your plane you should do it near the Hangar 24 Craft Brewery. Not only do they brew delicious beer but they also save lives. Two Hangar 24 employees pulled the pilot of a crashed plane from the burning wreckage. They didn’t even hesitate to help. If you are ever in Redlands, California I recommend you stop by the brewery and give them major props.
